Can Vertical Farms Ever Happen?

November’s Dwell magazine focused on rural living, and featured the following quote, written by editor Sam Grawe:

As more of us find ourselves living in metropolises, where our food will come from and who will produce it become ever more pressing questions. Vertical farms – multistory urban sites with crops and vegetables growing in greenhouselike conditions in their upper levels and livestock and fish thriving below – could conceivably alleviate many issues.

Despite talking hypothetically, Dwell clearly believes in the potential of vertical urban farms. However, over on the Fast Company website is another side to the story that tackles the subject with more skepticism, and it’s a great read. Check it out here.
