Infographic: An 8-city Perspective on Health and Well-being

This newly released infographic from the Philips Center for Health and Well-being looks at eight major global cities, exploring different aspects relating to residents well-being and visually representing the results. The notion of ‘the ideal community’ is also looked at, with perspectives varying in each city. So which city has the most job satisfaction? Which city earns the most? Which has the best mental health? Click the infographic below to view it in full.

According to this study, health appears to be
a key urban standard of living, whether people tackles physical or mental
health, stress of satisfying medical access in the city.

Health is becoming a growing issue in urban
local policy-making. In Europe many cities are developing a specific policy
focused on urban health.

URBACT (http://urbact.eu/) is a European exchange and learning programme that
enables 300 European cities to work together and to develop solutions to major
urban challenges.

Ten cities decided to cooperate
on the issue of health within the URBACT Building Healthy Communities project (http://urbact.eu/en/projects/quality-sustainable-living/building-healthy-communities-bhc/our-project/).
The project aims at capitalizing knowledge on urban factors influencing health,
and creating opportunities for cities to shape and implement health policies.
The project includes Madrid, Torino, Belfast, Baia Mare, Lecce, Lidingo, Lodz,
Amaroussion, Bacau, Barnsley.

Each city then must set up a
local support group which involves key stakeholders and acts as a steering
committee for implementing a local action plan.
For instance in Madrid (http://urbact.eu/en/projects/quality-sustainable-living/building-healthy-communities-bhc/partner/?partnerid=116), the Local Action Plan is
focused on a renewed use of some parts of the historic city, the Embajadores
area, to achieve at least three main goals: to rediscover new ways of living
the city, to facilitate the communication between two large green areas of the
city, to promote a healthier lifestyle through improved walking facilities.
